CAPITAL RADIO NETWORK/GRANT BROADCASTERS Talk 2CC/CANBERRA, ACT, AUSTRALIA producer and morning personality JORIAN GARDNER has been suspended for at least one week by the station for an off-color joke about Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD. GARDNER, discussing police "lapel cams" with host MARK PARTON, joked that Communications Minister STEPHEN CONROY should wear a "penis cam" to get upskirt video of GILLARD "to see if she has balls."
The CANBERRA TIMES reports that PD PETE DAVIDSON termed the joke a breach of the commercial radio codes of practice and added, "We wanted to send a message to JORIAN that it's not acceptable ... It's not a long suspension, but we needed to send the message that this wouldn't be tolerated."
GARDNER apologized but called the suspension "a massive over-reaction from management."
