The End Seems Near For Alternative WFNX
July 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM (PT)
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, judging by the chatter on FACEBOOK, tomorrow appears to be the end of Alternative WFNX/BOSTON's 29-year tenure over the airwaves. New owner CLEAR CHANNEL is rumored to be replacing it with the conservative Talk format now heard on WXKS-A.
Evidence of the end comes from JASON LAYNE and CHRISTINE HAYDEN, who both posted on WFNX's FACEBOOK page that their shift today would be their last for the station. On the station's website, the host of the local music show noted that its last airing was the 15th. On FRIDAY, former morning guy TAI, middayer JIM RYAN, and NEIL ROBERT will do the final air shifts on the station.
The rumor that CLEAR CHANNEL simulcasts WXKS-A's conservative Talk lineup to the 101.7 frequency is actually weeks old. The BOSTON PHOENIX reported on JULY 5th that such a move would take place, citing a new website, Talk 1017.com, that was linked to WXKS-A's 1200 AM site.
