THE NEW YORK TIMES reports APPLE is in talks with TWITTER about making a "strategic investment " in the company. "APPLE has considered an investment in the hundreds of millions of dollars," writes THE TIMES, "one that could value TWITTER at more than $10 billion, up from an $8.4 billion valuation last year."
The report notes that negotiations are not far enough along to expect a deal, but "a stronger partnership" is something that can be counted on -- even if a purchase isn't completed.
"APPLE doesn't have to own a social network," APPLE CEO TIMOTHY D. COOK said at a recent technology conference. "But does APPLE need to be social? Yes."
TWITTER CEO DICK COSTOLO has been on record as saying about APPLE, "Those guys are a great partner. We think of them as a company that our company looks up to."
