CBS RADIO Triple A WZGC (92.9 DAVE FM)/ATLANTA will flip to Sports in late SEPTEMBER or early OCTOBER.
GM RICK CAFFEY announced the change in a staff memo, writing" TODAY, I am pleased to announce that we will be launching a new station this fall -- SPORTS RADIO 92.9."
CAFFEY continued, "We have an exciting opportunity to reach a considerable group of listeners who are extremely passionate when it comes to our area sports teams, and we're looking forward to creating a station with its own unique personality highlighted by expert analysis and opinions, coupled with the right mix of entertainment, and audience interaction. SPORTS RADIO 92.9 will have a long roster of personalities including names familiar in sports and pop culture, as well as significant contributions from the everyday sports fan."
Sister station KDKA (THE FAN)/PITTSBURGH PD TERRY FOXX will join the station to handle programming.
"TERRY was instrumental in the creation of 'THE FAN' and building it into the premier sports station in the city. His extensive experience includes stints with ESPN RADIO in BRISTOL CT, and ABC RADIO NETWORKS," wrote CAFFEY. "We've had many conversations about the potential of SPORTS RADIO 92.9 and his vision is exactly what we need to win in this market."
Current APD/MD MARGOT SMITH told ALL ACCESS, “I’ll be here through the end, as will most of the air staff. We intend to go out with our heads high, doing the best radio we can.”
Meanwhile, HD-2 channel DAVE ROOTS -- programmed by SMITH -- will remain as it is for the time being."
