At 8:05p (ET), CLEAR CHANNEL MEDIA+ ENTERTAINMENT abruptly flipped Active Rock WKLS (PROJECT 96.1)/ATLANTA to Top 40 "POWER 96.1," "ATLANTA's New Hit Music Station." The launch statement cited ELVIS DURAN and "ATLANTA's own" RYAN SEACREST as two of the station's program hosts.
ELVIS DURAN AND THE MORNING SHOW will move from ATLANTA’s WILD 105.7 & 96.7 to POWER 96.1 weekday mornings from 6-10a.
“It’s exciting to help launch this new radio station, which I’m confident will definitely entertain ATLANTA listeners,” said SEACREST. “I am thrilled to be back on the air daily in my hometown.”
The station built up to the flip by playing a wide variety of Top 40, Gold and recurrents before airing a loop of FUGEES' "Ready Or Not" -- "ready or not, here I come, you can't hide" -- over and over, before breaking into LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," the first of "9,600 songs in a row."
“Our goal with the launch of the new POWER 96.1 is to bring ATLANTA a new and exciting hit music station with entertaining personalities, unique artist interaction and a fun connection to everything that’s going on in ATLANTA,” said EVP/Operations for Major Markets East TOM MCCONNELL.
