SPRING HILL MUSIC group OAK RIDGE BOYS received an unusual call to action on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 28th. While on holiday break after wrapping up their annual CHRISTMAS tour, former FIRST LADY BARBARA BUSH personally requested a favor from the quartet.
Former PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH has been hospitalized since FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd. After initially being admitted due to a bronchitis-related illness, the 41st PRESIDENT was then moved to ICU on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 23rd upon developing a fever.
To lift his spirits, MRS. BUSH asked the OAK RIDGE BOYS if they would call and sing a few songs to lift GEORGE’s spirits. The group obliged, cutting short their vacation. They asked MR. BUSH what he wanted to hear, and he immediately requested “Elvira.” The OAKS then sang “Amazing Grace” for him as well.
The OAK RIDGE BOYS have a long relationship with the BUSH family that dates back to 1982. Each year since, they have been the former PRESIDENT’s personal guests at the BUSH vacation home in KENNEBUNKPORT. "BRENDA and I consider PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH, BARBARA and their entire family some of our most treasured friends. My partners and I were so honored to help lift spirits by singing YESTERDAY (12/28) over the phone to him and his family. We wish him speedy recovery," said the OAK RIDGE BOYS’ WILLIAM LEE GOLDEN.
