On JANUARY 7th, 2007 APPLE officially launched the iPHONE, coinciding with the company's transition from APPLE COMPUTER to just APPLE. As DAILY FINANCE.COM reports, the first model was a 4-gigabyte version was priced at $499 and an 8GB version $599. There was no such thing as an App store.
Suffice it to say, the smartphone world was forever changed, if not the entire telecommunications business. iPHONE sales crossed 250 million -- two years ago. Today, THE NEXT WEB reports that AT&T sold 4.7 million in Q3 2012 alone, with estimates as high as 8 million for Q6, while VERIZON million sold 3.1 million iPHONES in Q3, with significantly higher numbers expected for Q4. T-MOBILE, which just pacted with APPLE, has already signed on 1.9 million iPHONES and are continuing to add 100,000 a month -- before the new relationship becomes official and it can start selling them at their stories.
And then there are rumors of APPLE coming out with a $99 iPHONE....
