On FRIDAY (NET NEWS 1/11) ALL ACCESS tipped you that a format change is certainly in the works at WFME (94.7)/NEW YORK. The once FAMILY-owned Religious station, recently sold to CUMULUS MEDIA, signed off the air and is now simulcasting Hot AC sister WPLJ. The call letters WRXP are currently seen in the RDS of the HD.
Over the weekend, some heard the call letters on the air starting to match the RDS display, with "WPLJ + WPLJ HD1 NEW YORK, WRXP + WRXP HD1 NEWARK" being used, however at 6a this morning (1/14) it was "WPLJ + WPLJ HD1 NEW YORK, WFME + WFME HD1 NEWARK". But subsequent hours had the station back to the use of RXP.
Tongues are still wagging over the new format, with Alternative, Country and Sports all rumored to be in the running. At the time of the sale, CUMULUS CEO LEW DICKEY had said. “This strategic acquisition of our second FM in the nation’s largest market will enable us to provide compelling new programming for our listeners and a powerful marketing vehicle for our advertising partners.”
