TODD SCHNITT took the stand on TUESDAY (1/22) as his defamation case against radio rival BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE resumed in a TAMPA courtroom, and the COMPASS MEDIA NETWORKS host said that his reputation had been damaged by comments made by BUBBA on the air.
CBS affiliate WTSP-TV/ST. PETERSBURG-TAMPA reports that SCHNITT testified that he began to receive harassing emails and telephone calls after BUBBA, upset over his prosecution for the on-air killing of a boar and his perception that SCHNITT's wife, an Assistant State Attorney, was involved in the decision to try him, began to rip SCHNITT (a/k/a MJ KELLI, then morning man at CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ/TAMPA) on the air. He said that the attacks, including people yelling obscenities at him in public and eggs thrown at his house, traumatized his children but that he was told by management not to respond to BUBBA's comments. Several emails sent by the "BUBBA Army" to SCHNITT were projected on a screen for the jury to read, including some with death threats and obscenities.
Also testifying on TUESDAY was BUBBA's producer BRENT HATLEY and former BUBBA sidekick MATT "SPICEBOY" LOYD, who said that BUBBA's comments were part of radio competition.
