WWNQ Permanently Rebrands Itself To '94.3 The Dude'

As ALL ACCESS reported earlier this WEEK (NET NEWS 2/5), HOMETOWN COLUMBIA Country WWNQ (CAROLINA COUNTRY 94.3)/COLUMBIA, SC has been stunting by rebranding itself all week long. Coinciding with various concert ticket giveaways and promotions each day, MONDAY (2/4) WWNQ turned into "94.3 GEORGE," TUESDAY (2/5) became "94.3 KENNY," and "94.3 GARTH" on WEDNESDAY (2/6). Each day, the station ONLY played songs from that particular artist.
WWNQ Owner/ GM KIRK LITTON said that the station was digging deep into the archives to play hits of each artist, regardless of what year the song was released- something that “corporate-owned Country stations” can’t do. Driving home the locally-owned angle of the station, management directly asked local listeners what they wanted in a radio station.
"We asked COLUMBIA Country fans what they wanted in a radio station and heard over and over, 'Dude, we just want to hear all our favorite songs on a station that is unafraid to be entertaining and play songs that were the biggest hits regardless of era'," said LITTON. "So we're having 'THE DUDE' deliver 'Undivided Country,' a mix of new Country and the greatest hits from the likes of GEORGE STRAIT, GARTH BROOKS, KENNY CHESNEY, TOBY KEITH and ZAC BROWN BAND, among many other greats. The way we see it, COLUMBIA now has a choice between the way corporate does it - the last 15 songs recorded in NASHVILLE over and over - and the way locally owned 'THE DUDE' does it," LITTON continued.
The new WWNQ "94.3 THE DUDE" will broadcast live, with no voice-tracking or syndicated programming. "We won’t voice track different voices from all over the country and try to fool you into thinking they are on the air here. That’s corporate radio. We are local," said LITTON.
KIRK LITTON is currently seeking a morning show for "94.3 THE DUDE." Interested applicants should send resumes and airchecks to email@example.com.
