Dick Purtan And WJR Raise $1.3 Million For Detroit's Salvation Army

DETROIT's annual radiothon for the SALVATION ARMY that provides food and shelter for the hungry and the homeless was started 26 years ago by DICK PURTAN at (then) WCZY. Those calls became WKQI and later, when PURTAN segued to WOMC, the Radiothon shifted over to that station. After his retirement, the event was picked up by WJR-A.
The 26th annual SALVATION ARMY Bed & Bread Club Radiothon brought PURTAN out of retirement again, and last Friday in one day -- on one station -- in 16 hours -- they raised an amazing $1,364,122!
Even in DETROIT's crippled economy, PURTAN said "that is impressive." Congrats to all for another great event.
