WAUN Flips To Regional Mexican

MAGNUM RADIO Smooth Jazz 92.7 WAUN/KEWAUNEE-GREEN BAY has flipped to Regional Mexican "LA MAS GRANDE." WAUN is also re-broadcast on translator frequencies 96.9 W247AC-FM GREEN BAY and 98.9 W255AQ-FM STURGEON BAY. FRANCISCO JUAREZ is brokering air-time on the station; LA MAS GRANDE can be heard all hours on WAUN except 6-8a weekdays.
"About a dozen years ago, another fine Latino broadcaster requested some weekend air-time on a station we operated in the Madison market," WAUN owner DAVE MAGNUM said. "Ultimately, the demand grew beyond the number of hours we could provide, so another station offered him full-time carriage on what became MADISON's Latino station. Almost an identical scenario played out in GREEN BAY. DUKE WRIGHT had given FRANCISCO a weekend opportunity on WNFL. FRANCISCO needed more airtime and approached us. Interestingly, I came to find that FRANCISCO started calling us back in 2005 but evidently there was a breakdown in communication somewhere along the way. Thanks to veteran broadcaster MARK HELLER, I finally did speak with FRANCISCO and learned that he had a nine-year history with (THE REAL) HOWARD JOHNSON who I'd worked for in ALBUQUERQUE back in the late '80s. FRANCISCO's solid track record with HOWARD gave me the assurance I needed to put LA MAS GRANDE on the air here."
JUAREZ noted, "We are in the process of assembling our staff and as time goes by our listeners will hear more and more special programming. We're already working on some events for CINCO DE MAYO. Our website is www.lamasgrandegb.com. This is very exciting and wonderful for our community. I am so thankful to DUKE and now DAVID for this chance."
