After 12 very successful years as ALL ACCESS/NASHVILLE Editor, JIM ASKER has announced plans to make a change in career paths -- and he will announce those new plans, shortly. Stepping up to the plate to continue and build on the great foundation that JIM has established is COUNTRY AIRCHECK VP/Country R.J. CURTIS, who joins as ALL ACCESS/NASHVILLE Editor, working side-by side with ASKER, beginning MONDAY, MAY 20th.
ASKER and CURTIS will work together in a transitional role over the next four weeks or so to ensure that our many Country radio friends across the land, and our music clients -- including labels, managers and artists in NASHVILLE -- have a smooth changeover in this very important position, joining ALL ACCESS/NASHVILLE Assistant Editor MISTI DOUGLAS and Editorial Assistant JACLYN CARTER.
ALL ACCESS co-Founder, President & Publisher JOEL DENVER noted, "I am truly sorry to see my dear friend and colleague JIM ASKER move on after starting our NASHVILLE office some 12 years ago. This began as a discussion several months back, and after chatting with several very qualified candidates, has culminated with choosing R.J. CURTIS, who JIM and I both feel is the right person for this role as ALL ACCESS/NASHVILLE Editor as he has a terrific background in Country radio and the Country music industry."
DENVER added, "While JIM will be with us for a while longer I just want to tell everyone how fortunate we've been to have had JIM with us for so many years -- and he will always be part of the ALL ACCESS family -- and we're very proud to welcome R.J. into the family to take on JIM's duties. I hope you will wish JIM nothing but the best, and welcome R.J. to ALL ACCESS with open arms."
ASKER commented on his years at ALL ACCESS, and R.J.'s arrival, saying, "12 years at ALL ACCESS. It's really hard to wrap myself around that sometimes. I came to ALL ACCESS after leaving radio and JOEL and (co-Founder VP/CFO) RIA DENVER didn't have a NASHVILLE office yet. Back then a good portion of the NASHVILLE music community, did not have ALL ACCESS on their 'radar' yet.
"I am proud of what we accomplished here and have really enjoyed working with JOEL and RIA and the entire ALL ACCESS staff. JOEL and RIA have become like family to me, and we have been through a lot together. I'm going to really miss everyone.
"As for my replacement, I can remember telling JOEL more than a year ago, that if I decided to leave that I would hope he'd talk to R.J. He's the perfect choice for the position. He's well known and liked by everyone in the community and I have no doubt that he will now take the company to a whole new level. RJ is also a good friend, so the transition of handing the reigns over to him will be an easy and smooth. Finally, just a big thanks to JOEL and RIA for their kindness and support these past 12 years."
R.J.'s career includes APD/MD and then Dir. Ops/PD at KZLA/LOS ANGELES, PD/air talent KNIX/PHOENIX, OM/PD KCYY & KKYX/SAN ANTONIO, R&R Country Editor, past CRS President, and current CRS VP as well as past member CMA and ACM Board Of Directors, and he was ARISTA/NASHVILLE's MIDWEST Dir./Promotion before joining COUNTRY AIRCHECK.
CURTIS told ALL ACCESS, "I'm honored and flattered at the invitation from JOEL and RIA to join the ALL ACCESS family. My goal is to build on the already successful Country brand JIM ASKER has created in the NASHVILLE community, utilizing the experience and relationships established during my career in radio, records and trade publications. Radio still excites me every day and I will always draw inspiration from the music, artists and label partners in our format.
"I also need to express my appreciation to LON HELTON, CHUCK ALY and the entire COUNTRY AIRCHECK team for allowing me to be part of their credible and respected industry publication for the past two-and-a-half years, which have been a period of professional discovery and growth that will forever benefit me."
Reach RJ at email@example.com and congratulate him.
