Rhapsody Revisits Ten Years Of Hits

The RECORDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA recently made the decision to include streaming music in the Gold & Platinum Program, which recognizes artists for strong song and album sales. Numbers of song streams will now count toward the Gold (500,000), Platinum (1,000,000), and Diamond (2,000,000) certifications. That announcement inspired the webcaster RHAPSODY to dig into their archives and determine which songs and artists of the past might have gone Gold, Platinum or Diamond if the new G&P standards had been around since streaming music hit the scene.
Highlights from RHAPSODY listener data include:
* Many of RHAPSODY’s Gold and Platinum artists, such as EMINEM and LIL WAYNE, have stood the test of time -- racking up the most Gold and Platinum hits respectively
* OUTKAST’s "Hey Ya!" was the first track on RHAPSODY to go Gold, going Platinum six months later
* In 2013, RICK ASTLEY’s classic hit, "Never Gonna Give You Up" went Platinum on RHAPSODY
* Since 2004, Platinum hits on RHAPSODY have multiplied by over 150%
