Bon Jovi Concert Cancellation Leaves WHBC Winners Prizeless

NEXT MEDIA Hot AC WHBC (MIX 94.1)/CANTON is getting some tough treatment in the local press by writer BOB DYER in the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. The station recently ran a contest giving away a VIP package for a listener to attend the BON JOVI concert scheduled for JULY 14th. However, the show was canceled -- leaving disappointed fans -- and disappointed contest winners.
WHBC listener SARAH HARKNESS was the big winner of tickets to the show, a limo ride to and from, dinner, hotel and more.
When the show was canceled by the band, the BEACON JOURNAL reports HARKNESS received, "Nothing. They wouldn’t even give me a bumper sticker, dude!" she said. The report notes, "HARKNESS had assumed she would get a decent alternate prize, given the contest rules posted on the station’s website, which say the station has the right to substitute prizes 'of equal or greater value.' But the best the station would do for her was to waive the normal requirement that contest winners have to wait 30 days to enter another contest."
DYER adds, "Other WHBC listeners were flummoxed as well. Although HARKNESS won the big prize, about three dozen others won regular BON JOVI tickets. One of them, VANESSA MARIE WENTZEL, posted the following on the station’s FACEBOOK page on MONDAY, 'I won tickets FRIDAY to the BON JOVI concert that has been canceled. Are you replacing prize winnings with anything else? What happens now?"
OM/PD JOHN STEWART told ALL ACCESS he's "been working with ISLAND DEF JAM to send her to the DETROIT show."
