GARDNER-WEBB UNIVERSITY is joining the list of colleges selling off their radio facilities.
The SHELBY STAR reports that the university plans to sell off the license and facility of its noncommercial Triple A WGWG (88.3 THE RANGE)/BOILING SPRING, NC and will take its programming online-only, and GM NOEL MANNING told the paper that the move is to "prepare for the future of radio and the future of college radio" and that going online-only "frees you a little bit. There are certain stipulations and regulations from the FCC you have to abide by with an FM frequency. For example, as a non-commercial station, if someone wants to purchase online sponsorships from you, you’re limited by what wordage you can use. Online, we can do full-blown commercials. It opens up new opportunities for us to work with."
