Music Industry Attorney Jules I. Kurz Dies

JULES I. KURZ, a renowned music business attorney who was instrumental in the early careers of artists such as BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, OZZY OSBOURNE, GOLDEN EARRING and GRACE JONES, has died. He was 82.
KURZ was born in NEW YORK and grew up in FAR ROCKAWAY. After a two-year hitch in the Army, he attended SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY and NYU LAW SCHOOL. He joined WARNER BROS. as a clerk shortly after completing his studies, afterward moving on to HILL & RANGE MUSIC PUBLISHING, which made its home in the famed Brill Building.
Following stints at INTERSONG, PICKWICK, and POLYDOR, KURZ established a private practice.
KURZ is survived by ANNE, his wife of 55 years; his brother ALAN; his son GARY; his daughter HELENE BORIS; and three grandchildren.
UPDATE: A memorial for KURZ has now been announced taking place MONDAY, AUGUST 25th at TAVERN 29 (47 East 29th Street, 2nd Floor) in NEW YORK. It will be an informal gathering of friends, family and colleagues to memorialize and celebrate KURZ and his accomplishments.
