FCC Explains LPFM Processing Schedule
December 3, 2013 at 5:33 PM (PT)
The FCC has issued an explanation of its process for moving forward with the applications filed for low power FM stations in the recent filing window, noting that the Media Bureau will make identifying acceptable singleton applications a priority, and then will issue a Public Notice identifying mutually exclusive application groups, which will trigger a period during which applicants will be able to file certain amendments, settlements, and time-share agreements. After tentative selections are made, petitions to deny may be filed.
The Bureau received over 2800 Form 318 applications in the window, including 21 applications for major modifications of previously-authorized LPFM stations. Top states for LPFM filings were TEXAS (303); CALIFORNIA (283); FLORIDA (276): OREGON (91); GEORGIA (81); and WASHINGTON (81). LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, SAN FRANCISCO, HOUSTON, MIAMI, TAMPA, and PORTLAND, OR had 10 or more LPFM applications each.
