As ALL ACCESS reported TUESDAY (NET NEWS 12/31/2013), ASHTON “KIMO AKANE” KAIUWAILANI, PD for KINE and long time radio personality, died MONDAY. He was 58. “He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.” stated his wife, ELLEN.
Most recently, KIMO worked for SUMMITMEDIA/HONOLULU.
“Our morning team and our families are at a loss for words over KIMO's passing. KIMO was a great mentor and friend to Davey, SHAWNEE and me. His coaching and insight made us a better team and we will miss him dearly. Our prayers go out to his family.” stated GREGG HAMMER.
SUMMITMEDIA/HAWAII Pres. TJ MALIEVSKY recalled, “KIMO was a consummate professional. His career spanned four decades and he touched the HAWAIIAN ISLANDS with his talent in programming and on air work across many different radio formats. He will be missed tremendously here at SummitMedia and his loss to the Hawaiian music community is incalculable. We all cared for him dearly both as a friend and a respected colleague. Aloha, KIMO.”

He was valued both as a friend and knowledgeable program director by all who knew and worked with him. KIMO will be greatly missed.”
