SANTA MONICA COLLEGE noncommercial Triple A-News-Talk KCRW/SANTA MONICA-LOS ANGELES "LEFT, RIGHT AND CENTER" co-host and WASHINGTON POST columnist MATT MILLER has thrown his hat into the crowded ring to run for the Congressional seat being left vacant by the retirement of Rep. HENRY A. WAXMAN (D-CA).
The LOS ANGELES TIMES reports that MILLER issued a statement asserting, "I'm a proud Democrat but too often politicians in both parties care more about winning elections than solving problems" and that dealing with the issues facing the country "means embracing bold ideas -- the kind of fresh thinking we aren't likely to get from career politicians." MILLER was a Senior Advisor in the WHITE HOUSE Office of Management and Budget from 1993 to 1995 and a WHITE HOUSE Fellow in 1991-93 as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.
The race in the largely Democratic district covering the coastal area from MALIBU down through PACIFIC PALISADES, SANTA MONICA, and the Beach Cities of EL SEGUNDO, MANHATTAN BEACH, HERMOSA BEACH, and REDONDO BEACH to the PALOS VERDES PENINSULA (the only Republican-dominated pocket in the district), has drawn several candidates on the Democratic side, including front-runner State Sen. TED LIEU (D-TORRANCE) and former LOS ANGELES Controller and mayoral candidate WENDY GREUEL.
