Former Tribune Broadcasting CEO Jim Dowdle Dies At 79

Condolences to family and friends of JAMES C. (JIM) DOWDLE, the former EVP of TRIBUNE COMPANY and Pres./CEO of TRIBUNE BROADCASTING, who died MONDAY of congestive heart failure in WILMETTE, IL at 79, according to ROBERTFEDER.COM.
DOWDLE started his career as an ad salesman for the CHICAGO TRIBUNE in 1956, leaving the company to join the EDWARD PETRY CO. TV ad sales rep firm and then becoming NSM at KWTV (TV)/OKLAHOMA CITY in 1962 and NSM at KSTP-TV/ST. PAUL-MINNEAPOLIS in 1964. After serving as VP/GM of WTOG-TV/TAMPA, he became TRIBUNE BROADCASTING Pres./CEO, in which position he served from 1981 through 1997. He also served on TRIBUNE's Board of Directors.
