HOWARD UNIVERSITY's Interim Pres. DR. WAYNE A. I. FREDRICK announced RADIO ONE's CEO ALFRED LIGGINS and company founder CATHERINE HUGHES--have made a 4 million dollar gift to the School of Communication.
DR. FREDRICK said, "HOWARD UNIVERSITY is a business and we need to make money. HOWARD must invest properly and be invested in. We know that continuously raising tuition as a form of income is not sustainable. We need partners with deep pockets to make the goals of the university sustainable. Over 70 percent of annual revenue is from federal sources, thus lacking stability in crucial economic times. This means that in times such as the recent government shutdown -- the university experiences a deficiency in cash flow."
FREDERICK has served as HOWARD's Chief Academic Officer/Provost since 2012 and has been active in academic planning and oversight of HOWARD'S 13 schools and colleges.
