Changes are underway at L&L BROADCASTING: Alternative WARQ (ROCK 93.5)/COLUMBIA, SC is stunting with sweepers directing listeners to sister WMFX (FOX 102.3), which shifts from Classic Rock to Mainstream Rock as "COLUMBIA'S ROCK STATION, FOX 102.3." The FOX 102.3 website states: "We're taking the best of FOX 102.3 and ROCK 93.5 and merging them together into one awesome rock station: COLUMBIA'S ROCK STATION, FOX 102.3!" Stay tuned for more details on WARQ's new format.
“Rock fans are some of the most passionate fans of music and they really appreciate a variety of sounds, eras, and music styles,” said MIKE HARTEL, L&L’s SVP/Market Manager for COLUMBIA. “Now with the New Sound of FOX 102.3, they can find the very best the rock format has to offer, regardless of when it was made.”
L&L BROADCASTING Director/Programming SCOTT MAHALICK added, “We’ve given FOX 102.3 a complete makeover and all the vital signs are really strong. Not only will it reinvigorate energy and excitement into the station but will also thrive with the live and local team."
OM/PD Dave Stewart Resigns
Meanwhile, WARQ & WMFX OM/PD DAVE STEWART has resigned after 11 years to focus on his promotions company, SS PRODUCTIONS.
STEWART said, "As exciting as those changes are, I am ready for new challenges. I’ve done radio for 25 years, and while it was a great ride (most of the time!), I felt that the timing was right for me to move on. I will be focusing on building my event promotions company (SS PRODUCTIONS), and spending as much time with my family as possible. Now that I won’t be getting up at 4a, I might be able to stay up until they go to bed!"
He added, "Thanks to you all who I’ve worked with for the past 11 years, and everyone at L&L – the stations are truly now in the 'best hands' in radio."
