FCC Fines Station For Going Silent Without Authorization

The FCC has proposed a $5,000 fine against WTRI HOLDING, LLC for unauthorized discontinuation of operations of WTRI-A/BRUNSWICK, MD. 

The station was silent for two periods in 2005 and 2009, and then again in 2011-12.  JOHN MULLANEY of MULLANEY ENGINEERING contended that the station should be denied a license renewal because the station was dark without an STA and when he went to inspect the public file, the station was closed.  The licensee claimed financial hardship.

The Commission did, however, renew the license while issuing the fine.
