Mike Calta Show To Roast The Demise Of 'Cowhead'
April 9, 2014 at 10:57 AM (PT)
As tipped here almost a week ago (NET NEWS, 4/4), COX RADIO Talk WHPT (THE BONE)/TAMPA afternoon host COWHEAD will end his show on THURSDAY, APRIL 10th, with a funeral roast. The very next day, MIKE “COWHEAD” CALTA will return, rebranded, as host of “The MIKE CALTA Show”.
The celebrity roast gets under way at 8:30p, as Roast Master “GALVIN” will be joined by COMEDY CENTRAL’s JIM FLORENTINE, BERT KREISCHER, ROBERT KELLY, GREG FITZSIMMONS and JIM NORTON, along with TAMPA’s own MAURICE JOVAN and JOHNNY B. Expected attendees are LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN writers JUSTIN and ERIC STANGEL, HALL OF FAME baseball player WADE BOGGS, and FANDANGO from WWE.
Regarding the show name change, "I've been using this name since my early days at THE POWER PIG where COWHEAD fit in with BONER, BIG WOODY, STRETCH MARKS, BOOGER and many other ridiculous radio monikers,” said CALTA. “But at 42 years old I think it is time to evolve from a nickname that would otherwise describe oral sex among farm animals! The show will continue to be as entertaining and sophomoric as it ever was ... it will just now be known by a name that will make it easier to embarrass my children at school!”
The event will be streamed live on COWHEAD TV, and will be replayed -- albeit censored -- on 102-5 THE BONE the next afternoon at 3p. At the event’s conclusion the name “COWHEAD”, which the MIKE CALTA has used since his start in radio in 1992, will be put to rest, and the show will reemerge as The MIKE CALTA Show.
