ALL ACCESS sends condolences to the family and many friends of DAN DONOVAN (BLAINE HARVEY) who spent many years on the air in the TWIN CITIES at Hot AC KSTP-F (KS95) and most recently doing afternoons at Classic Hits KQQL (KOOL 108), who passed away, according to KARE (TV 11)/MINNEAPOLIS. Word is DONOVAN had an apparent heart attack.
DONOVAN was known on the air as the "THE GEEZER" and was inducted into the MINNESOTA BROADCASTING HALL OF FAME in 2006. Also in 2006 City Pages named him Best Twin Cities FM Radio Personality for that year. DONOVAN had stops along the way at WICE-A/Providence, WMEX/BOSTON, WCBM/BALTIMORE, and then a decade in afternoons at WFIL-A/PHILADELPHIA.
ALL ACCESS Presi./Publisher JOEL DENVER recalled his time working with DAN at WFIL, "DAN was one of the most talented on-air personalities I've ever worked with. His timing was impeccable. He could deliver amazing sets and content while on-air, yet off the mic, he was on the shy side, and really preferred that no one hang out and shoot the breeze in his studio. He worked best in the control room alone. Totally a different man on the air. Rest in peace, DAN. Your energy and passion will be missed."
A memorial service will be held for DAN DONOVAN this SATURDAY (9/6) a 11a at the WASHBURN-McREAVY EDINA CHAPEL, 5000 West 50th St., EDINA, MN 55436 near the VERNON exit off of Highway 100.
There is a tribute to DAN DONOVAN and a growing collection of airchecks from his 50 years in the biz at www.radiotapes.com, a site that is run by TOM GAVARAS out of MINNEAPOLIS. Just scroll down on the home page, and you will see the tribute section to DAN DONOVAN.
