BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE's promotional campaign to herald his new TAMPA radio home at BEASLEY BROADCASTING's WHFS-F/TAMPA-ST. PETERSBURG, presently stunting with an all-BUBBA format, continued THURSDAY with a t-shirt giveaway aimed at taunting his former flagship, COX MEDIA GROUP Talk WHPT (102.5 THE BONE).
BUBBA fans were given "Bury the BONE" t-shirts if they drove through the parking lot of GOODFELLAS PIZZA in ST. PETERSBURG, adjacent to THE BONE's studio building, and BUBBA's crew estimates that 650 cars with 1,000 occupants showed up, causing the show to run out of shirts and bumper stickers within an hour.
BUBBA, who has been in an exchange of taunts with his BONE replacement MIKE CALTA since COX dropped his show and who tried and failed to get on the air with CALTA THURSDAY, said, “This is one of the proudest days of my broadcasting career. I am humbled, it's more than we expected.” CALTA parked his own tour bus in front of BUBBA's studio the morning BUBBA announced his move to BEASLEY.
