OHANA MEDIA GROUP Country KXLW (96-3 THE WOLF)/ANCHORAGE, AK has repositioned itself as “TODAY’S NEW COUNTRY,” shifting from a gold-based, 90s musical lean.
“This is the next logical step for ‘THE WOLF,’ said OHANA VP/Programming TOM OAKES. “The station is now perfectly positioned to compete for the 18-49 adult audience with a full slate of today’s new Country music. The new approach brings an increased level of commitment to today’s Country music, further community involvement and a new focus on excitement in our presentation. For our listeners, ‘THE WOLF’ will be heavy on the newest Country music mixed with recent hits and the biggest chart-toppers of the 2000s.”
OAKES also said ‘THE WOLF’ is now running “No more than eight minutes of commercial content each hour.”
The newly repositioned “WOLF” is currently jockless, with station regulars SHELLEY RYAN, BRAD ERICKSON, UNCLE BUCK, EDDIE MAXWELL and DAVE MARTIN set for an early FEBRUARY return. That will coincide with the launch of a new morning show, which the station is currently developing.
JOHN WELCH had been handling mornings prior to the re-branding; OAKES tells ALL ACCESS it is possible WELCH will return to the on-air line-up in another capacity down the road.
