CMA Honors Songwriters With Triple Play Award Luncheon

The COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) held its "SIXTH ANNUAL CMA SONGWRITERS LUNCHEON" today in NASHVILLE. During the event, the association presented its CMA TRIPLE PLAY AWARDS to songwriters who penned three chart-topping hits within a twelve-month period leading up to the luncheon.
"Songwriters touch lives with their craft," explained CMA CEO SARAH TRAHERN. "It is their words and melodies and stories that connect with the millions of fans of Country music. I want to congratulate all of the TRIPLE PLAY AWARD winners for their amazing accomplishments."
Writers from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC were in attendance, as were songwriter members of CMA and representatives from various MUSIC CITY publishers. TRIPLE PLAY AWARD winners included RODNEY CLAWSON, who snagged two TRIPLE PLAY statues for penning six #1 hits, bringing his total wins to five. DALLAS DAVIDSON also received his fifth TRIPLE PLAY AWARD taking away one this year. Moving up to the four-timers club were TRIPLE PLAY AWARD recipients RHETT AKINS, ASHLEY GORLEY, and LUKE LAIRD, while first-time winners included MICHAEL CARTER, JON NITE, JOSH OSBORNE, COLE SWINDELL, BRAD WARREN, and BRETT WARREN.
