TRIBUNE News-Talk WGN-A and CW affiliate WGN-TV/CHICAGO, the CHICAGO TRIBUNE, HOY, and the MCCORMICK FOUNDATION have formed the ILLINOIS TORNADO RELIEF EFFORT 2015 to aid families and communities struck by the tornadoes that swept across ILLINOIS on THURSDAY (4/9). WGN will devote its broadcast day on MONDAY (4/13) to fundraising for the cause.
The MCCORMICK FOUNDATION will match the first $500,000 raised at 50 cents on the dollar, and all administrative costs will be paid to ensure that 100% of the funds raised will go directly to nonprofit organizations helping the affected. On ROE CONN's show TODAY, ILLINOIS Governor BRUCE RAUNER personally donated $100,000 to the effort.
WGN Radio Pres./GM JIMMY DE CASTRO said, “In the tradition of WGN Radio helping our neighbors, we are honored to help our listeners when they need it the most. We give special thanks to the Governor and Mrs. RAUNER’s generous personal donation of $100,000. We will continue our fundraising efforts to make sure these communities get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”
