A pirate FM operator in LINDEN, NJ picked the wrong radio station with which to interfere, getting shut down by police after a complaint from TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Talk WKXW (NEW JERSEY 101.5)/TRENTON.
NJ ADVANCE MEDIA/NJ.COM reports that NEW JERSEY 101.5 complained to police in LINDEN that a pirate station was broadcasting on 101.3 FM in the city. The station did its own investigation and located the pirate station's antenna at 406 E. Baltimore Ave. in LINDEN, notifying the police and adding photos of the antenna and complaints from NEW JERSEY 101.5 listeners in the area.
While an investigation by the FCC would take several weeks, the installation turned out to violate zoning ordinances, leading to the police issuing a notice warning of summonses and fines if the nonconforming use continued. The antenna was removed by TODAY (4/15).
