KCRW and THE HAMMER MUSEUM will again partner this JULY to present four nights of live bands and DJ sets as part of KCRW’s SUMMER NIGHTS series. Free and open to the public, SUMMER OF SOUL features live band performances and sets from KCRW DJs in the HAMMER's courtyard.
The series kicks off on THURSDAY JULY 9th with BREAKESTRA, featuring eight live musicians, led by FUNKY SOLE PARTY founder/DJ MILES TACKETT and KCRW’s JEREMY SOLE's evening-opening DJ set.
Other scheduled acts include L.A.-based electro-R&B crooner SAM SPARRO and REBIRTH, with DJ sets by KCRW's AARON BYRD and CHRIS DOURIDAS (JULY 16th); DAM-FUNK, known as L.A.'s' "Ambassador of Boogie Funk," with singer/songwriter MARTIN LUTHER and DJ sets from ANTHONY VALADEZ and RAUL CAMPOS (JULY 23rd), and JUNGLE FIRE, with their blend of Cumbia, Afrobeat and traditional funk, as well as THE SUFFERS, a 10-piece band from HOUSTON who serve up some tasty GULF COAST soul, starting off with a DJ set by KCRW's GARTH TRINIDAD (JULY 30th).
Happy hour, with a cash bar, starts at 6:30p (PT) along with KCRW DJ sets. Live music begins at 7:30p (PT) and the museum’s gallery hours will be extended to 9p (PT), so guests can enjoy the HAMMER MUSEUM exhibitions.
