KANKAKEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE will be shutting down noncommercial Variety WKCC/KANKAKEE, IL in DECEMBER, reports CHICAGOLAND RADIO AND MEDIA.
The school posted a message from President Dr. JOHN AVEDANO on its website, reading, "It’s with a heavy heart that I am announcing that 2015 is the final year for WKCC. While we believe the station is a community asset, the college isn’t able to continue funding it. Recent enrollment declines, coupled with dwindling state support, make it essential for the college to direct its resources toward instructional and student needs. Our last day of broadcast will be DECEMBER 18, 2015.
"We began the station knowing it could enhance learning in our community. I believe it has done that. Intelligent programs, along with our locally produced blues, jazz, BEATLES and film shows, were unique broadcasts in our area and demonstrated an incredible amount of knowledge and creativity.... Again, please accept my sincere appreciation for your listenership and support over the life of our station. We hope your lives were enriched as much as ours were."
