AXS-TV Will Air 'The Wrecking Crew' Documentary In July

MARK CUBAN's AXS TV has acquired the exclusive television rights to MAGNOLIA PICTURES’ critically acclaimed music documentary "THE WRECKING CREW," which will premiere on SATURDAY, JULY 18th, at 9p (ET)/6p (PT) — long before it is available on any other linear or streaming services — and will re-air at multiple times until SUNDAY, JULY 26th. The film was originally released in theaters across the country on MARCH 13th.

"THE WRECKING CREW" is the true story of a group of L.A.-based studio musicians made up of drummers HAL BLAINE and EARL PALMER, guitarists TOMMY TEDESCO and AL CASEY, bassists CAROL KAYE and JOE OSBORN, and keyboardist DON RANDI, the unsung heroes who served as the studio backing band on some of the biggest hits in rock n’ roll history, including “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I Got),” “Good Vibrations,” “California Girls,” “Viva Las Vegas,” “Be My Baby,” “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “California Dreamin’,” as well as their time as the PHIL SPECTOR WALL OF SOUND ORCHESTRA.

The documentary is directed by veteran television producer DENNY TEDESCO, son of WRECKING CREW guitarist TOMMY TEDESCO, who first conceived the concept in 1995, as a means of dealing with his father’s terminal cancer diagnosis. Gaining support from family and friends, the project quickly took on a life of its own, as TEDESCO transformed a 14-minute clip into a full-length feature honoring the tremendous impact that his father and the WRECKING CREW had on the music industry.

In addition to the band’s members, the film also features interviews and session footage with music legends FRANK SINATRA, DEAN MARTIN, NAT "KING" COLE, HERB ALPERT, GLEN CAMPBELL, CHER , BEACVH BOYS founders BRIAN WILSON and AL JARDINE, NANCY SINATRA, FRANK ZAPPA and SIMON & GARFUNKEL.

Honoring THE WRECKING CREW's legacy, AXS TV will air an encore broadcast of "THE BEACH BOYS 50 -- Doin' It Again" documentary at 8p (ET)/5p (PT), JULY 18th and  present “THE BEACH BOYS 50 Live in Concert” immediately following the premiere. THE WRECKING CREW served as the backing band on several of THE BEACH BOYS hits, as seen in the recent acclaimed biopic, :"Love and Mercy."
