The CHICAGO TRIBUNE reports that former syndicated Talk host WARREN BALLENTINE was spared prison time for his mortgage fraud conviction, instead being given three years' probation, 300 hours of community service, and $140,940 in restitution after he was found guilty last OCTOBER on six counts of mail, wire, and bank fraud and making false statements to financial institutions.
U.S. District Judge MATTHEW KENNELLY told a hearing TUESDAY that only three of the deals cited in the case showed proof of BALLENTINE's wrongdoing, and blamed the fraud on BALLENTINE's inexperience as an attorney. BALLENTINE was serving as a real estate lawyer in closings that involved over two dozen loans that allegedly defrauded lenders of almost $10 million.
BALLENTINE hosted a show for RADIO ONE's SYNDICATION ONE.
