IRA GLASS has acquired full ownership of "THIS AMERICAN LIFE" from CHICAGO PUBLIC MEDIA News-Talk WBEZ/CHICAGO, reports ROBERTFEDER.COM. The deal gives GLASS, host and co-creator of the show, CPM's stake in the show in exchange for profits from "TAL" and "SERIAL." The show's staff of 22 full-time workers will now work for GLASS' company; WBEZ will continue to retain its branding on the show.
GLASS told FEDER that he "wanted the freedom to be able make some things without WBEZ. I say that with no complaint about WBEZ. It’s worked great. But I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and I just want to be in a position to decide what I want to do, and not have to clear it with the board or anybody else. I feel that I’m experienced enough that I should get that freedom. I am very grateful that they agreed."
