Indiana FM Fined For Public File, Other Violations

LARKO COMMUNICATIONS has been hit with a proposed $15,000 fine for public file violations and shutdown without applying for an STA at Oldies WMYQ (OLDIES 101 WIOE), now operated, subsequent to the violations, under an LMA by BRIAN WALSH)/SOUTH WHITLEY, IN. Commission also renewed the station's license, noting that the violations do not qualify as "serious" in the context of renewal.
The station informed the FCC that none quarterly issues/programs lists were missing from its file due to the illness and subsequent death of owner/GM CHRISTOPHER LARKO, who was the only full-time employee of the station. The licensee also noted that it was dark between MARCH 29th, 2011 and JANUARY 26th, 2012 and did not file for an STA because it would have been subject to the Commission's Red Light policy due to unpaid annual regulatory fees.
