After BEATS 1, could there be a BEATS 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6?
MASHABLE.COM, citing reports, said APPLE MUSIC may be planning to add more live radio stations to its recently launched BEATS 1.
APPLE reportedly has the option to add five more BEATS 1-like radio stations without having to renegotiate its contracts with major record labels, according to THE VERGE. The report also notes APPLE pays labels better than competing Internet radio station like PANDORA.
BEATS 1 has received positive reviews and has attracted big-name talent with both the regular DJs and the variety of guest artists who have weekly programs. It broadcasts live 12 hours a day, with studios in LONDON, NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES.
APPLE could also take the opportunity to develop more specialized, focused programming with additional stations.
Beats 1 is free for non-subscribers of APPLE MUSIC, so a wider variety of programming and more stations could be a way to introduce more potential subscribers to the paid service.
It's to early too tell, but Apple Music looks like it could be a success if it can convert its trial users into paid subscribers.
