Regionally syndicated sports talker MATT JONES is being courted by Democrats to run for Congress, the host of "KENTUCKY SPORTS RADIO" told listeners MONDAY (8/24).
CBS affiliate WKYT-TV/LEXINGTON reports that JONES, whose show is heard on iHEARTMEDIA News-Talk WKJK-A/LOUISVILLE and WLAP-A/LEXINGTON as well as several more stations across the state, said he is considering challenging Rep. ANDY BARR (R-KY) next year in KENTUCKY's Sixth Congressional District and will decide before the start of basketball season.
He said he went to WASHINGTON in JUNE and met with the DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE, which, he said, was looking for an "out-of-the-box" candidate, in the vein of DONALD TRUMP.
BARR's office released a response MONDAY afternoon saying that while BARR is a "big fan of KENTUCKY SPORTS RADIO. But like congressman BARR, KSR listeners are passionate about UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY athletics, not politics. Apparently, the national Democratic campaign committee knows so little about our state, they have confused the two."
