Howie Carr Writes Account Of Being Target Of Whitey Bulger

Regionally syndicated talk host and BOSTON HERALD columnist HOWIE CARR was long a thorn in mobster WHITEY BULGER's side, but the recent comments by BULGER's associate KEVIN WEEKS that BULGER and he planned to kill CARR for his open criticism of them drew CARR's response at THE DAILY BEAST.
In the article, CARR, heard in BOSTON on ENTERCOM News-Talk WRKO-A, chronicles how he ended up one of the few in the media who dared to criticize BULGER, whose story is the subject of the current movie "BLACK MASS" (with JOHNNY DEPP as BULGER). And CARR explains how a magazine story he wrote enraged BULGER and his brother, State Senate President WILLIAM M. "BILLY" BULGER, causing them to issue threats to put out a hit on CARR. But CARR also contends that while he had to take precautions, and that WEEKS' story about lying in wait in a cemetery across from CARR's house, told in a book, on "60 MINUTES," and in testimony after WEEKS turned state's evidence against BULGER, was not true.
