WYEP/Pittsburgh Succeeds With Novel Fundraising Approach

PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY BROADCASTING Triple A WYEP has tried something a handful of other public stations are doing this fall to eliminate many hours of pitching on-air.
The station did a three-week run of prerecorded messaging letting listeners know to give before the deadline date to avoid the traditional fall fundraiser on-air. They ended up only having to do 11 hours to reach their goal. In fact, they raised a lot more money overall, compared to last fall.
Station MD KYLE SMITH said, “Our sustaining members before the drive were about 41% -- I expect that percentage to rise quite a bit after this drive.”
