Willie Nelson Underwent Stem Cell Surgery For Lung Condition

One month after postponing the launch of his tour with MERLE HAGGARD (NET NEWS 10/14), WILLIE NELSON revealed to the WASHINGTON POST that he underwent a stem-cell operation.
"It was supposed to help the lungs," NELSON told the POST. "Over the years, I've smoked a lot of cigarettes, and I've had emphysema and pneumonia four or five times, so my lungs were really screwed up, and I had heard that this stem-cell operation would be good for them. So I said, 'Well, I'm gonna try it out.' But I'm still so sore that I can't say that it was a success. I'll have to wait until all the soreness goes away."
NELSON and HAGGARD hit the road together in OCTOBER on their "DJANGO AND JIMMIE TOUR," which has since wrapped. NELSON was honored this WEEK with the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS GERSHWIN PRIZE for Popular Song (NET NEWS 11/18).
