HEATHCLIFF BERRU, founder and head of influential indie-rock publicity/management firm LIFE OR DEATH, whose clients include ODD FUTURE, OF MONTREAL, D'ANGELO, MAC MILLER and KILLER MIKE, has stepped down from his post after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. The firm's President NICK X DIERL will take over, issuing the following statement: "We are taking measures to ensure that the alleged behavior did not, and will not, make its way into company operations or impact our commitment to promoting art and assisting our clients."
DIRTY PROJECTORS' AMBER COFFMAN took to TWITTER to accuse BERRU of various instances of harassment, including "rubbing" her ass and "biting" her hair several years ago.
Those charges were reiterated by several others, including BEST COAST's BETHANY CONSENTINO. MOTORMOUTH MEDIA's JUDY MILLER SILVERMAN also claimed she knew of the allegations for years, though she was not personally affected.
BERRU later released a statement blaming "a losing battle against drugs and alcohol for many years and [that he] will be checking into a rehabilitation facility in the hopes I can improve my chances of winning that fight."
Several of the firm's roster, including WAVVES, DIIV, SPEEDY ORTIZ and KELELA, have taken to social media to announce they would be leaving the company, but KILLER MIKE tweeted his support.
My day to day publicist is Dunkin and he will continue to be. Cliff is still my friend and i will support him in being a better human being— Killer Mike (@KillerMike) January 20, 2016
