Former RADIO ONE Urban WERQ (92Q)/BALTIMORE air personality DJ REGGIE REG passed SATURDAY night (2/6) at ST. AGNES HOSPITAL, reports THE BALTIMORE SUN. He was 50-years old.
His sister, BETTY COVINGTON told THE SUN that he had been in declining health and died of congestive heart failure.
"He had been having trouble walking, but we just couldn't stop him. At a musical event, he would sit in a chair these days. He died doing what he loved," she said.
BALTIMORE Mayor STEPHANIE RAWLINGS BLAKE said in a statement, “I was terribly saddened to hear of REGGIE's passing. He was one of the best DJs of my generation, with a personality bigger than life. He will definitely be missed."
REGGIE REG was a well-known local BALTIMORE club jock before joining WERQ in the mid-90s and spending nearly a decade on the air there.
Services will be held at WYLIE FUNERAL SERVICE in WEST BALTIMORE. The day and time are forthcoming.
