Jim Nantz Did KNBR/S.F. Pre-Super Bowl Interview While Wife Was In Labor

CBS sportscaster JIM NANTZ did an interview with CUMULUS Sports KNBR-A/SAN FRANCISCO's BRIAN MURPHY and PAUL MCCAFFREY six days before calling the SUPER BOWL, but the circumstances were, to put it mildly, unusual: He had just dropped his wife off at the hospital to give birth.
YESTERDAY (2/11), NANTZ returned to KNBR to explain what happened that MONDAY (2/1), telling MURPH and MAC that he was about to leave his PEBBLE BEACH house at 7a to head for SAN FRANCISCO for media day, and had scheduled MURPH and MAC for 8a, when his wife COURTNEY told him her water had just broken and she needed to get to the hospital. His response: “Honey, I’ve got to be on the MURPH AND MAC show!” COURTNEY suggested that the 8a interview time was not going to work, and NANTZ called KNBR to see if they could move the hit to 8:30.
But when doctors checked and determined that the birth was not imminent, COURTNEY told her husband to go back home and do the interview. And so he did. JAMESON NANTZ was born later that afternoon.
