UNDERCURRENTS, the daily four-hour eclectic music mix heard around the world via NATIVE VOICE ONE: THE NATIVE AMERICAN RADIO NETWORK (NV1.ORG), will celebrate its 10th Anniversary this year with host/Producer GREGG MCVICAR and is provided by THE CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING.
UnderCurrents, which debuted in JANUARY, 2006, is now heard on over 170 stations. Multiple hours of UNDERCURRENTS are heard each day on KXT/DALLAS, KUTX/AUSTIN, WSGE/CHARLOTTE-DALLAS, IOWA PUBLIC RADIO, JEFFERSON PUBLIC RADIO (CA/OR), WYOMING PUBLIC RADIO and via networks and translators that cover large swaths of TEXAS, ALASKA, MINNESOTA, COLORADO, ARIZONA and NEW MEXICO.
McVicar recently spun off a new two-hour weekly show UNDERCURRENTS WEEKEND, designed for stations to transition into their weekend entertainment programming. Hosted by MCVICAR and GABRIELA CASTELÁN, the program features an eclectic music mix similar to UnderCurrents interspersed with vox pop street interviews with people out enjoying weekend activities, plus conversation about cooking, concerts and events.
“Weekends are about, kicking back, sharing a meal with friends, taking in a film or live music, getting outdoors and having some fun," MCVICAR said. "UNDERCURRENTS WEEKEND will ease public radio listeners from the hectic news cycle into a playful weekend state of mind.”
