NPR is launching a new podcast, "EMBEDDED," using embedded reporters to do deep dives into feature stories. "ALL THINGS CONSIDERED" co-host KELLY MCEVERS is hosting the new show, which debuts on MARCH 31st. Edited versions of the show will air as features on "ALL THINGS CONSIDERED," and the show will partner with BOSTON UNIVERSITY News-Talk WBUR/BOSTON's "ON POINT WITH TOM ASHBROOK" to produce up to five shows about the stories featured on "EMBEDDED."
"We are excited about this new showcase for NPR journalism -- KELLY is an intrepid reporter and wonderful storyteller with a unique voice that resonates with listeners," said NPR VP of News Programming and Operations CHRIS TURPIN. "EMBEDDED will take listeners into a journey beyond the headlines; drawing not only on KELLY's talents, but on NPR's tradition of long-form, sound rich journalism."
"When you read a headline in your news feed, you have a lot of questions. For me, the only way to answer those questions is to go there, spend some time, get to the know the people in the middle of the story," said MCEVERS. "This is a show where we'll do that. Embedding usually means attaching yourself to the military in a war. But for me it means trying to attach myself to anyone who's in the news — and staying with them as long as I can."
"I think the ON POINT audience is going to really like EMBEDDED," said ASHBROOK. "It's smart, driving and fits with our content perfectly. KELLY is a journalist with a strong voice who people trust, and she and the EMBEDDED team are going into some of the most interesting places in the world. We're excited to be part of the project."
