As previewed at ALL ACCESS last month (NET NEWS 2/23), PRX' RADIOTOPIA podcast network is launching an open call for new podcast ideas in a competition, "PODQUEST," that will grant ten semi-finalists $300 each plus support including software from HINDENBURG SYSTEMS and memberships in PRX and media talent network AIR, and three finalists $10,000 each plus mentoring and other support to produce pilots, with one winner being cleared to produce a full series for the network. The competition is one of a series of initiatives by RADIOTOPIA funded by a $1 million KNIGHT FOUNDATION grant received last year.
"RADIOTOPIA's mission is to provide a powerful, supportive platform for podcasting's boldest voices,” said RADIOTOPIA Exec. Producer JULIE SHAPIRO. “PODQUEST will connect us with ambitious, emerging producers and bring their creative talents to audiences hungry for RADIOTOPIA-style podcasts: shows that consistently showcase innovative, provocative and carefully crafted storytelling.”
Entries are being accepted through APRIL 17th; semi-finalists will be announced JUNE 1st at PRX's website, finalists will be announced JULY 6th-8th at PODCAST MOVEMENT in CHICAGO, and the winner will be announced in NOVEMBER at the THIRD COAST CONFERENCE in CHICAGO.
