Online Dance/Hip-Hop radio station PULSE 87/NEW YORK return to the web on MARCH 1st. Founder/CEO JOEL SALKOWITZ noted, "After being derailed at the beginning of the year by the new SOUNDEXCHANGE royalty rates (NET NEWS, 1/4), along with about 10,000 other Internet broadcasters, we have a re-organized company so that we can operate as a non-commercial webcaster.
"PULSE 87 will now operate supported by listeners as well as a limited amount of underwriting in a similar fashion to Public Radio and TV," he continued. "ut we've been able to dramatically reduce our operating expenses so this model is quite viable for us. Unfortunately, trying to operate as a commercial webcaster under the new royalty rates was absolutely impossible. No business can afford to pay out more than 100% of what the bring in. That's more than a little sad for all the artists that have lost thousands of internet broadcasters as an outlet for their music that might otherwise never be heard, but we're thrilled to be back!"
PULSE 87 also brings back the same air staff and music. Its sister online station, PULSE 96.7FM/LAS VEGAS has continued to operate through all of this with all the same people in place.
