A portion of the proceeds from DAVE MATTHEWS BAND's MAY 27th concert at PNC MUSIC PAVILION in CHARLOTTE, NC, will be donated via the band's BAMA WORKS FUND to five charitable organizations: AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION (ACLU), LAMBDA LEGAL, ACLU of NORTH CAROLINA, EQUALITY NC, and TIME OUT YOUTH.
The band identified these organizations with the assistance of NC NEEDS YOU, an organization that encourages artists to keep their dates in NORTH CAROLINA in order to bring awareness and resources to the fight for equality in response to HOUSE BILL 2.
ACLU, LAMBDA LEGAL and ACLU OF NORTH CAROLINA are challenging HOUSE BILL 2 in Federal court. The state law removes local legal protections for LGBT people and prohibits transgender people from using public facilities that correspond to their gender identity. EQUALITY NC is dedicated to securing equal rights and justice for LGBTQ NORTH CAROLINIANS. TIME OUT YOUTH is a grassroots organization that provides support for LGBTQ teens in the CHARLOTTE area.
In 1999, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND established the BAMA WORKS FUND at the CHARLOTTESVILLE AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION and has subsequently contributed a portion of each concert ticket sold to the fund. To date, the fund has raised more than $40 million and made over 1,300 grants, primarily to charitable programs in the CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, area. It has also responded to a variety of national and international needs.
